How to Flash NMminer – Step-by-Step Firmware Guide
How to Flash NMminer (Step-by-Step Guide)
This guide walks you through how to flash NMminer firmware using the official NMminer flashing process. Unlike NerdMiner, NMminer uses a licensed firmware and a different flashing workflow.
Important: This guide is for NMminer only. If you are flashing NerdMiner (open-source firmware), see that guide HERE.
What You Need Before You Start
- High-quality USB data cable (not charge-only)
- A PC
- Google Chrome browser
- Your NMminer device
- A valid NMminer license
Make sure your computer is fully updated and working properly. Flashing is straightforward, but missing one requirement will stop the process.
Step 1: Test Your USB Cable
Plug your NMminer into your PC using the USB cable. You should hear a system sound confirming the device was detected.
If you do not hear a sound, the most common issues are:
- The USB cable does not support data
- Required USB drivers are not installed
If needed, install the Silicon Labs USB-to-UART driver:
Download USB Driver
Step 2: Use Google Chrome
Download and open Google Chrome. The NMminer flashing tools are known to work reliably with Chrome.
Step 3: Open the NMminer Flashing Tool
Navigate to the official NMminer flashing tool. This tool is required for flashing licensed NMminer firmware.
You can find that HERE.
The flashing tool link is provided with your license or included in the video description.
Step 4: Select the Correct Board Version
Select the board version that matches your NMminer device. Choosing the wrong board will cause flashing to fail.
Refer to the label on the back of your device and visually confirm the board type before continuing.
Most boards that look like this will either be:
esp32-2432s028r-st7789
or
esp32-2432s028r-ili9341
Step 5: Connect Your Device
- Plug the NMminer into your PC
- Click Connect
- Select the device from the popup list
If no device appears, stop and troubleshoot before continuing. This usually indicates a USB cable or driver issue.
Step 6: Flash the Firmware
Click Start Flashing and allow the process to complete. This typically takes a few minutes.
Do not unplug or disturb the device during flashing.
Step 7: Confirm Successful Flash
Once flashing completes, the device will reboot automatically. You should see the NMminer startup screen.
If colors appear inverted or unusual, this can be corrected in the settings menu.
Next Step: Device Setup
Flashing is now complete. A the bottom of the screen will be a button to "Activate License", click that and you will be able to purchase a license for $3.
The next step is configuring Wi-Fi and entering your Bitcoin wallet address, pool and mroe.
A setup guide video is linked below and on the How-To page.
